After school today (September 18, 2019), it was reported to a building principal that a high school student had made a comment about carrying out an act of mass violence at school. Given the seriousness of this report, district officials immediately contacted law enforcement authorities to request assistance. Miller County Sheriff’s Department officials have already intervened. They’ve assured us the student will not be on school grounds while the investigation continues and while the validity of the threat is determined. They also plan to have deputies on site tomorrow. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken by school officials, as directed by law and district policy. We commend the reporting students for bringing this information to our attention, as it allowed us to respond quickly for the safety of our students.
